Make a Skin Care System with Essential Oils to Calm Redness

For those moments when your face showcases a relentless redness, not necessarily tied to emotions or temperature, aromatherapy comes to the rescue. The ideal blend of essential oils should be gentle for prolonged use and proficient in cooling, reducing inflammation, and nourishing the skin.

Essentially, calming redness emerges from these basic properties. Among the star ingredients for this purpose is Helichrysum essential oil and its hydrosol counterpart.

Renowned for calming redness and inflammation, Helichrysum is the go-to solution for diverse skin concerns, ranging from acne to minor injuries. Its healing prowess even extends to scar reduction. It's almost as if our skin receives a healing nudge in Helichrysum's presence.

Rose Otto Oil and Rose Absolute is a cherished ingredient in the world of skincare. Distilled from the petals of the Rosa damascena plant, this essential oil carries a plethora of skin-loving properties:

  • Natural Moisturizer: It's known to provide deep hydration, making it perfect for dry or mature skin.

  • Antioxidant Rich: Filled with nourishing antioxidants, Rose oil helps combat free radicals, thus potentially delaying the onset of skin aging.

  • Toning and Firming: It can improve skin tone and texture, giving the skin a firm and youthful appearance.

  • Calming Properties: Its aromatic essence is known to alleviate emotional stress and anxiety, which can indirectly benefit skin health.

Pairing Rose Otto with Helichrysum is like combining two powerhouses of skincare. Helichrysum's reparative and anti-inflammatory traits beautifully complement the moisturizing and toning capabilities of Rose Otto. When these oils merge, they not only offer their individual strengths but also create a blend that seems to magnify their benefits. This synergy ensures that your skin gets the best of both worlds - hydration, repair, tone, and a reduction in redness and inflammation.

Carrot Seed Essential Oil has stood the test of time, being revered for centuries for its ability to rejuvenate the skin. It's loaded with antioxidants, which bestow the skin with its reparative and revitalizing properties.

The first part of this "system" is a moisturizer made with a base of argan oil known to nourish skin and not clog pores. Helichrysum asked its dear friends Rose and Carrot Seed to join it in this blend since they're both fantastic for skin care and are wonderful essential oils to calm the redness on your face.

'Chrysum & Rose Redness Calming Oil

  • 1 fl oz (30 ml) Argan Oil (Argania spinosa)

  • 1 drop Helichrysum Oil (Helichrysum italicum)

  • 1 drop Rose Oil (Rosa x damascene)(or Rose Absolute)

  • 2 drops Carrot Seed Oil (Daucus carota)

Make this blend in a 1 fl oz (30 ml) glass bottle. Combine the argan oil and essential oils, and shake gently.

You can use this moisturizer as often as you like throughout the day.

But just in case you'd rather not take your moisturizer with you when you're at work or running errands, I'll share a convenient face spritz that you can take with you instead. It's easy to use wherever you are and feels refreshing and spritzed on your face and neck!

'Chrysum & Rose Hydrosol Spritz

  • ½ fl oz (15 ml)Helichrysum Hydrosol (Helichrysum italicum)

  • 1 fl oz (45 ml) Rose Hydrosol (Rosa damascena)

Make this blend in a 2 fl oz (60 ml) spray bottle.

Though I've provided exact measurements, don't hesitate to tweak the recipe. Whether you prefer more Rose or more Helichrysum, it's your skincare ritual; make it something you adore.

With consistent use, these blends can pave the way for a healthier, more radiant complexion. But, always remember holistic care: hydrate often, reduce exposure to potential irritants, and keep stress in check.

Note: I love getting my hydrosols at Aromatics International. The hydrosols are distilled for the hydrosol and are not a by-product of essential oil distillation. When hydrosols are distilled for the hydrosol, fresh plant material is used.

Enjoy!
