3 Tea Tree Essential Oil Benefits You Should Know About

Tea Tree Essential Oil Benefits3 Ways that Tea Tree Essential Oil Benefits Us, and How to Use It Safely

Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) is one of the most well-known essential oils—right up there with Lavender!

If you browse the internet looking for Tea Tree essential oil benefits, you will come up with a truly long list of effects. And some of the information you’ll find will be spot on! There are a LOT of benefits that Tea Tree essential oil offers us.

But some of the information online is not entirely reliable.

Even when it’s shared with the best of intentions, by people who have used the essential oil themselves, the information may be a little misleading.

So how do you know what information you can rely on?

I’ve been teaching people to use essential oils safely and effectively for over 20 years. And I’m going to share 3 research-based Tea Tree essential oil benefits with you.

Tea Tree Essential Oil Benefit #1
Reduce Infections

Tea Tree essential oil has been well researched, and we know that it’s amazing for reducing the presence of germs and clearing infections.

This is thanks to one of the primary natural components that Tea Tree contains. It’s called “terpinen-4-ol.”

Terpinen-4-ol is what makes Tea Tree essential oil so reliable at helping to clear up something like a cold, the flu, or even a sinus infection.

You can experience these benefits by doing a steam with Tea Tree essential oil.

All you need is a bowl of steamy water. Then add 1 drop of Tea Tree essential oil.

(ONE drop is all you need! Too many drops can become overwhelming when you’re doing a steam.)

Close your eyes, lean over the bowl, and take slow, deep breaths of the nourishing steam.

Want to concentrate the Tea Tree steam around your head even more? Drape a towel over your head! It will be like a “mini steam sauna!”

(Just be sure to keep some tissues nearby. You might want to blow your nose a few times!)

Tea Tree Essential Oil Benefit #2
Calming Acne

Since it’s such a strong antimicrobial, and also anti-inflammatory, a big Tea Tree essential oil benefit is calming acne.

You can put 18 drops of Tea Tree essential oil in 1 oz (28 g) of aloe vera gel (Aloe barbadensis) and use it as a spot treatment.

No need to put it all over your face—just a spot here and there right on the acne can soothe inflammation and reduce infection.

Tea Tree Essential Oil Benefit #3
Nobody likes to talk about this one . . .

. . . It’s something that a lot of people experience . . .

. . . but they may not know what natural options are available . . .

. . . and might even feel uncomfortable that they are dealing with it in the first place . . .

It’s foot fungus!

And thanks to terpinen-4-ol, helping to reduce fungus is one of Tea Tree essential oil’s benefits.

We can even use it in natural cleaners for helping get rid of fungus.

Here’s a recipe that blends Tea Tree essential oil with 3 other oils that are excellent for clearing microbes and fungus. It’s made in a base of aloe vera gel, which has a gentle drying effect. That’s just what we want when dealing with fungus, which prefers moister conditions.

Here’s the recipe . . .

No One Likes to Talk About Foot Fungus

  • 1 oz (28 g) aloe vera gel (Aloe barbadensis)
  • 3 ml Solubol
  • 6 drops Tea Tree essential oil (Melaleuca alternifolia)
  • 3 drops Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia)
  • 3 drops Geranium essential oil (Pelargonium × asperum)
  • 3 drops Palmarosa essential oil (Cymbopogon martinii motia)

Make this blend in a 1 oz (30 ml) glass bottle. Combine the aloe vera and Solubol, then add the essential oils and shake gently.

The Solubol will help the essential oils stay dispersed through the aloe vera gel, which is so helpful because aloe is a water-based ingredient. We know that water and oils don’t mix!

But since aloe vera is water-based, I do suggest making a fresh bottle of this every few weeks. (Hopefully you will not need it that long!)

Our friend Tea Tree essential oil benefits us in so many ways: for reducing infections, for acne, for foot fungus, and more. These 3 recipes will give you safe, effective ways to use the essential oil . . . and now you understand why they work!
