Essential Oils For Earaches

A Great Essential Oil Earache Blend to Use for Kids

I want to share a popular essential oil earache blend from our online Aromatherapy for Natural Living class.

It's made with a few simple ingredients, including Lavender essential oil—one of the most gentle, nurturing oils in the Aromatherapy world!

Lavender calms inflammation and eases pain while also offering emotional comfort. This is especially handy when kids get earaches—a very distressing childhood issue!

Since we never put essential oils into our ears (even if they're well diluted), I have created an effective essential oil earache blend that you will love.

We created this class to help people learn to use essential oils in their everyday lives, including safely blending for children. This essential oil earache blend is perfect for kids who are over five years old. It's made in a base of Trauma Oil.

If you've never used Trauma Oil for pain, I think you'll like it! Trauma Oil is a carrier oil infused with three healing herbs: arnica, St. John's wort, and calendula. It's good at easing pain all by itself, and when we add essential oils, we really "amp up "its talents! (You can read more about it here on The Aromahead Blog.)

"Lavender + "Earache Oil for Children (NEVER put this blend inside the ear)

0.5 fl oz (15 ml) Trauma Oil

4 drops Tea Tree essential oil (Melaleuca alternifolia)

2 drops Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia)

Pour the Trauma Oil into a 1 oz/30 ml (or ½ oz/15 ml) bottle. Add the essential oils and shake gently.

This blend is meant to be rubbed around the outside of the ear and into the neck. It works by calming inflammation and pain in the area and helping to reduce any infection that might be present.

And before I end this blog post, I know that some adults get earaches, too. (No fun . . .)

I want to share a slightly stronger blend (a 5% dilution) for adults. It includes Eucalyptus oil, which I don't recommend for kids. (It's too strong for topical use for children but is very effective for adults.)

"Lavender +"Earache Oil for Grown Ups

0.5 fl oz (15 ml) Trauma Oil

5 drops Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia)

5 drops Tea Tree essential oil (Melaleuca alternifolia)

5 drops Eucalyptus essential oil (Eucalyptus globulus)

Remember, just because you're all grown up doesn't mean you don't have to follow the rules! Don't drop this essential oil earache blend into your ear—apply it around the outside of your ear and on your neck.

Our online class Aromatherapy for Natural Living includes more recipes for kids like this one and lessons on blending for Luscious Skin, Inhalation, Natural Cleaning, and Immune Support. You can read more about it here!

Lavender says it hopes your little ones feel better soon . . . and so do I!
