Neroli Vetiver Hydrosol Body Spritz

by Andrea Butje on August 28, 2017

Hydrosol body spritzes are so refreshing!

Hydrosols are created during the process of distillation at the same time as essential oils. After the plant material has been distilled, then we have both the essential oil and the water portion of the distillate. The water portion is the hydrosol.

Hydrosols are aromatic and offer their own therapeutic effects, distinct from the essential oil that came from the same plant. (Nature never ceases to amaze me!) I like to use pure hydrosols for things like natural cleaning blends and body spritzes. It is so refreshing to spritz yourself with a few sprays of hydrosol if you’re feeling busy, stressed, or if it’s a hot day. And you can use your Lavender hydrosol body spritz as a surface cleaner if you like! Aromatherapy is beautifully versatile and always there for us.

How to Make Gardener’s Hand Scrub with Basil and Rosemary

by Andrea Butje on July 31, 2017

When working in the garden, there are a few things it’s good to remember . . .

Make sure to wear sunscreen or a hat for plenty of shade.

Wear good gloves for weeding and trimming plants.

Clean your hands with an all-natural, homemade gardener’s hand scrub, and be sure to get the dirt out from under your nails before you eat dinner. (Haha!)

I have an Aromatherapy recipe for that! This is a natural Basil Rosemary Gardener’s Hand Scrub blend that you can use any time your hands feel dirty and grimy, or dry and cracked. It’s also great for artists, such as sculptors who work with clay, or painters who tend to get paint all over their hands.

Argan Aloe Face Wash

May 22, 2017

I love making my own soap with all natural ingredients . . . but I don’t always like to use soap on my face. As nourishing as it is, it can still leave my face feeling a little too dried out. (And this doesn’t even touch on the way store-bought soaps can affect my skin! I avoid them altogether.)  […]

An Oil for Scars

May 15, 2017

If I’m making a butter or oil for scars or old wounds, one of my favorite carrier oils to use is tamanu. Tamanu oil comes from Madagascar and the Polynesian Islands, and has a very intense, nutty, curry-like aroma. In some areas of the Polynesian Islands it’s been used as a traditional medicine for healing skin conditions, old wounds, and scars.  […]
