What is Aromatherapy? (What Aromatherapy is and how to use it!)

    April 08, 2019

We share a lot of fun essential oil recipes on The Aromahead Blog, but let’s get back to a few basics! What is Aromatherapy, anyway? Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to support health and well-being—whether that means cleaning the house, recovering from a cold, sleeping more soundly at night, or any number of benefits! Essential oils are naturally produced by some aromatic plants. It’s amazing how many different ways plants can produce essential oils. For example, Vetiver essential oil is stored in the plant’s rootlets, so we have to harvest those to obtain the oil. Cedarwood essential oil comes from the tree’s wood, and Orange essential oil is primarily extracted from the rind of the fresh fruit. Lavender essential oil comes from Lavender flowers, but there’s usually also some in the little leaves of the plant, too. […]

    April 04, 2019

These 4 Must Have Essential Oils Can Expand Your Aromatherapy Practice I want to share 4 of my favorite must-have essential oils with you! You may not know about some of these, because they’re not as commonly used as essential oils like Lavender, Eucalyptus, or Sweet Orange. But these 4 essential oils offer some beautiful and (in some cases) exotic substitutes for more popular oils. They’ll give you more ways to create aromas that people love, and to go even deeper with your Aromatherapy practice. […]

    April 01, 2019

Calm Inflammation (short and long term) by using Essential Oil for Joint Pain Juniper essential oil knew from the time it was young that it didn’t want to go into the family business. Its family had created handmade furniture for generations. But Juniper noticed that a lot of its family members developed joint point due to all that woodworking . . . So Juniper learned a different skill set—massage and Aromatherapy! It learned to make pain relief gels, oils, and butters to ease inflamed joints. I dreamed up that story for the Juniper essential oil profile in my book, The Heart of Aromatherapy. It’s a great way to remember some of Juniper’s talents! […]

How to Use Essential Oils for Cuts and Scrapes…Safely!

    March 25, 2019

In Aromahead Institute’s popular class, Aromatherapy for Natural Living, I’ve created an entire lesson about using essential oils safely and effectively for children—including how to use essential oils for cuts and scrapes.  I want to share that blend with you. It’s made in a base of aloe vera gel, which is gentle on skin and supports healing. The three essential oils for cuts and scrapes in this blend are good at calming pain and inflammation, supporting healing, and cleaning out germs. (In fact, they’re so good at getting rid of germs, I often use these oils in natural cleaning blends. Yet they’re gentle enough for injured skin.) I like this blend because it allows you to use essential oils for cuts and scrapes safely—even for kids. […]
