Why I Love Cocoa Butter for Natural Diaper Rash Butter

March-Blog-March 26-Title-Why I Love Cocoa Butter for Natural Diaper Rash Butter -600x900-V1.jpgCocoa butter nourishes tender skin so well, it’s perfect in a homemade, natural diaper rash butter!

People tend to fall in love with cocoa butter.

That’s because it’s an all-natural carrier butter that’s gentle and deeply nourishing, and it blends beautifully into homemade body butters and creams.

And also because cocoa butter smells like chocolate! (That’s enough to make anyone fall in love a little!)

In my book, The Heart of Aromatherapy: An Easy-to-Use Guide for Essential Oils, I included profiles of some of my favorite carriers. Cocoa butter definitely made the list! Here’s a quote from the book that tells you how cocoa butter nourishes skin:

“Cocoa butter is rich with skin-loving fatty acids and vitamin E, and it acts as an antioxidant. Its texture is very firm, smooth, and a bit powdery on the surface when it’s solid, and it melts into a silky liquid on your skin. It is often used to restore very dry, cracked skin and to replenish aging skin. It is deeply moisturizing, nourishing, and protective.”

For me, cocoa butter feels like an old friend I can turn to when I need to deeply moisturize, or care for extra sensitive skin. I even trust it on the most sensitive skin of all . . . baby butts, haha!

I want to share a natural diaper rash butter that only includes three reliable, nourishing, healing, feel-good-on-skin, as-pure-as-can-be ingredients! It comes right from The Heart of Aromatherapy.

Comforting Cocoa Natural Diaper Rash Butter

  • ¼ oz (7 g) beeswax (Cera alba)
  • 1 oz (30 ml) argan oil (Argania spinosa)
  • ½ oz (14 g) cocoa butter (Theobroma cacao)

That’s it! No essential oils needed! You will need a 2 oz (60 ml) glass jar, though.

  1. First set up the “Stovetop Melting Method” by placing a Pyrex measuring cup in a soup pot that’s ¼ full of gently boiling water.
  2. Melt the beeswax in the Pyrex.
  3. Add the cocoa butter and melt.
  4. Add the argan oil and melt, stirring gently with a glass stirring rod or the handle of a stainless steel spoon.
  5. Remove the blend from heat and pour it into your 2 oz (60 ml) glass jar.

Smooth this natural diaper rash butter over baby’s irritated bottom to care for sensitive and abraded skin.

You might love the nourishing texture of this natural diaper rash butter so much that you’ll want to use some on your hands . . . I recommend making another jar of it for thatso you’re not using the same jar of butter for two verydifferent things!
