How to Make Better Essential Oil Choices for Your Friends and Family

by Andrea Butje on August 21, 2017

As someone who loves essential oils, how often do you make blends or recommend oils for your family and friends?

This can be one of the most fun, rewarding parts of Aromatherapy! It’s so fulfilling to be able to help the people you care about with your knowledge of essential oils.

I receive emails daily from people who want to help others with essential oils, but don’t feel fully confident about their ability to do that. They want to be sure they make or recommend something that’s effective and safe!

Here are a few examples:

  • “My nephew fell down and scraped his knee. What can I make to soothe the pain and reduce germs?”
  • “My pregnant friend asked me for an essential oil blend, but I need some guidance to make something effective and safe for the developing baby.”
  • “I found a great headache recipe I want to make for my husband! But I don’t have two of the oils in the blend. Which oils can I substitute?”

If you can relate, I think you’d really enjoy becoming an Aromatherapy expert, and all the benefits that can help you offer others.

That’s why I love running Aromahead Institute. Time and again, I have seen the way that becoming an Aromatherapy expert has transformed lives, and I love helping people develop that expertise.

When you fully grasp concepts that may have once confused you—such as essential oil safety, phototoxicity, how to make blends, and which oils will be most effective in a given situation, it frees you up to help more people.

It’s also inspiring to me when people learn exactly why essential oils work. It’s not magic . . . it’s just science, and you can learn it!

When someone learns the chemistry of Lavender and says, “Oh, so that’s the chemistry behind Lavender’s relaxing effect on the nervous system!” I want to cheer!

When someone says, “Ah, I see! The same chemical component that helps Eucalyptus support respiratory health is also present in Ravintsara. That means I can substitute them for each other if needed!” I want to say “Hooray, you got it!”

So I want to thank you for following The Aromahead Blog. It is so inspiring to me to see so many people interested in Aromatherapy—in understanding how and why it works, and in getting better at using essential oils safely and effectively. It’s why I do what I do!
