In my book, The Heart of Aromatherapy: An Easy-to-Use Guide for Essential Oils, I gave “personalities” to 40 different essential oils.

Frankincense runs a meditation center, and the entire building was crafted by hand. The whole place is a work of art! While it may feel a little “exotic” the first time you go, Frankincense will quickly help you feel right at home—it’s good at making the extraordinary feel like a daily reality.

Sweet Orange has a sunny fruit orchard where you can go for a retreat to release all your worries. It’s “the friend you’ve known for years who never lets you down—familiar, warm, and always there when you need a bit of comfort.”

Ginger has a zesty, spicy personality that will get your energy going! Ginger loves to get out and see the world, experiencing all the excitement every day has to offer. It likes to take its friends on trips, or to take them out dancing in the evening . . . only to get up early the next morning and start another fun day.

These three are a great trio for a festive holiday body oil! (They throw a great party!)

This recipe is warm and comforting, with bright citrus and a hint of spice that can help you feel energized. Frankincense complements the season, while reminding us that every day is a special occasion.

Warm Resin Citrus Body Oil

  • 1 oz (30 ml) jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis)
  • 6 drops Frankincense essential oil (Boswellia carterii)
  • 4 drops Orange essential oil (Citrus sinensis)
  • 2 drops Ginger essential oil (Zingiber officinale)

Combine the ingredients in a 1 oz (30 ml) glass bottle and shake gently. Use this blend as a body oil, moisturizer, Massage oil, or even perfume.

In addition to the emotional benefits I mentioned above, this blend is helpful for encouraging circulation, caring for skin, and supporting immunity.
