Two Effective and SAFE Essential Oils for Children's Stomach Pain!

If you're a parent or take care of children, you're probably familiar with the words, "My belly hurts!"

When kids have stomach pain, it's not always easy for us to know what's going on—whether they've eaten something that doesn't agree with them, or they feel nervous about something, or they've gotten a little stomach bug . . . or if they're only talking about belly pain because they can't easily articulate what's really going on for them.

Whatever's making them say, "My belly hurts!" we can use essential oils for children's stomach pain and help them feel better.

I want to share a recipe for digestion cream made with essential oils that can support digestion, calm spasms, and encourage positive emotions. This blend can support kids through a variety of issues, so you can help them feel better even if you're not sure exactly what is going on in their tummies. It can help them feel happier and feel cared for. (Sometimes simply feeling cared for and seen can help children feel better! Isn't that wonderful?)

My Belly Feels Better!
Natural Cream with Essential Oils for Children's Stomach Pain

  • 1 oz (28 g) unscented Lotion

  • 4 drops Sweet Orange essential oil (Citrus sinensis)

  • 2 drops Roman Chamomile essential oil (Chamaemelum nobile)

Make your blend in a 1 oz (30 ml) glass jar. Simply put the cream in the jar, add the drops of essential oils, and stir them in gently with a glass stirring rod or the handle of a stainless steel spoon.

When kids' bellies hurt, you can massage this cream into their bellies and lower backs. Sweet Orange and Roman Chamomile make a great pair for this—they're gentle enough for children, and are two of my favorite essential oils for digestion. They smell incredible together, too—warm, floral, and fruity!

I suggest using this blend for kids who are five years old and bigger. It's a comforting, safe way to use essential oils for children's stomach pain.

For kids younger than five, I suggest using Trauma Oil instead. Trauma Oil is a blend of three herbs infused into a carrier oil. The herbs are arnica, St. John's wort, and calendula—you can probably imagine how soothing Trauma Oil is! For little ones younger than five, try a gentle massage with Trauma Oil and a cup of warm organic chamomile tea.

The reason I prefer to stick with Trauma Oil and tea for little children is that their bodies are so much smaller than adults, and their systems are so much more responsive. Essential oils are highly concentrated and can become overwhelming for them. Trauma Oil is gentler but still effective enough to give them the nudge they need towards feeling better and being able to run and play again.

And if your own grown-up belly ever hurts, give the belly cream a try for yourself!
