Looking for a natural answer to knee pain that keeps you up at night? Try these 5 essential oils for knee pain!
Essential oils offer us a natural, effective choice for soothing pain—including pain that’s ongoing and chronic. In that case, we want something that’s incredibly effective... but we’re going to be using it on our bodies regularly over a longer period of time. We definitely want it to be all natural, too.
The recipe for knee pain gel I’m about to share fits the bill!
First, I want to tell you about the essential oils in this blend, so you know how they’ll be working for you.
Here are 5 essential oils for knee pain.
See if you can recognize what all of these oils have in common, which helps them work in synergy to create a beautiful, effective knee pain blend.
Roman Chamomile – This essential oil calms inflammation and helps muscles and joints gently release tension and pain. A very emotionally soothing oil with a sweet floral, fruity aroma that makes it popular in bedtime blends.
Ylang Ylang – Ylang Ylang has a heavy floral aroma that can deeply relax the nervous system. It helps calm inflammation and creates an overall sense of safety, gently coaxing the mind to release worry and the body to release tension.
Palmarosa – A floral, slightly herbal oil that’s distilled from a grass. Palmarosa reduces inflammation and cares for skin. It’s often used in blends to relieve pain, calm anxiety, and cool heat from a warm, injured area.
Lavender – One of the most well-known essential oils for emotional relaxation and physical pain relief! Lavender soothes inflammation in muscles and joints, and supports the body’s natural healing processes.
Orange – Orange has a warm, familiar, fruity aroma. This oil’s amazing ability to calm inflammation comes as a surprise to some, but it’s one of my favorite essential oils for knee pain! It’s also used for decreasing swelling.
Did you catch the commonalities? All 5 of these essential oils for knee pain have been researched and proven to be good at calming inflammation (which means they can ease pain and reduce swelling in joints), and relaxing the nervous system. They also happen to be gentle on skin. They’re all perfect for a nighttime knee pain gel!
This recipe comes from Aromahead’s YouTube channel, where it’s received a lot of positive comments. I wanted to share it with you on the blog, too.
Nighttime Knee Pain Gel with Essential Oils
- 2 oz (56 g) aloe vera gel (Aloe barbadensis)
- 5 drops Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile)
- 2 drops Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata)
- 3 drops Palmarosa (Cymbopogon martinii motia)
- 5 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
- 3 drops Orange (Citrus sinensis)
Make this blend in a 2 oz (60 ml) PET plastic bottle with a flip-top.
Combine the aloe and essential oils, and shake well.
Rub a generous amount into your knees at night when you go to bed. The aloe is a great carrier for this, because it’s light and absorbs quickly—not greasy or oily, so it won’t get on your linens. I suggest you make this blend fresh every few weeks.
If your knees wake you up in the middle of the night, you can use more of this gel. You might find that using it over a period of time has better effects for you than if you just apply it once.
I also want to note that you have the option of including Solubol dispersant in this blend. That will help keep your essential oils dispersed through the aloe. 3 ml of Solubol would be the right amount here.
And one more tip . . . if you want your blend to be even stronger, try reducing the amount of aloe vera gel from 2 oz (56 g) to 1 oz (28 g).
I hope these essential oils for knee pain help you sleep well!
