How to Make Natural Essential Oil Acne Gel that Really Works for You!

Sometimes, despite your daily skincare routine, acne still makes an appearance.

That's okay. You can make an essential oil acne gel an "essential" part of your skincare collection. You don't have to use it every day—just when a spot pops up that needs some attention. (But the acne gel recipe in this post is gentle enough for everyday use, too.)

I want to share an essential oil acne gel recipe made in a base of aloe vera, which is so soothing and healing for the skin. It's also made with essential oils known to reduce inflammation and infection.

I initially shared this blend on my YouTube channel, and it's been so popular there that I want to share it with blog readers, too!

Essential Aloe Acne Gel

  • 25 ml Aloe Vera Gel (Aloe barbadensis)

  • 5 drops Patchouli essential oil (Pogostemon cablin)

  • 5 drops Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia)

  • 5 drops Tea Tree essential oil (Melaleuca alternifolia)

  • 3 drops Lemon essential oil (Citrus limon)

  • 3 mls solubol dispersant

You'll need a 1 oz (30 ml) PET plastic bottle with a flip-top to make this blend. (In the video, I'm making 2 oz/60 ml. I reduced it to 25 mls for this blog post.) PET plastic is known to be a non-reactive plastic that doesn't leach, and the flip-top allows you to get just a bit of the gel out at a time. I have also added in 3 mls of solubol for this recipe!

Shake the blend well, then apply a dab of your Essential Aloe Acne Gel right onto the acne.

I also suggest making a fresh bottle of this every few weeks since aloe is a water-based carrier and there are no preservatives in this blend.

I want to make a note about Lemon essential oil because it's phototoxic.

This means that Lemon can cause skin reactions in sunlight. But if we use 12 drops or less for every 1 oz (30 ml) of a carrier, we're within Lemon's safe limits. We're only using 3 drops, so this blend is not phototoxic.

If you want to adjust this essential oil acne gel to make it more personal for you, just be sure not to use more than 12 drops of Lemon.

If you like using natural skincare to help reduce acne, you can also make your own soap-free face wash (which won't cause irritation or dry out your skin). Try washing your face with pure argan oil (Argania spinosa). Argan oil is light and doesn't clog pores. Just get your skin damp with warm water, massage the argan oil into your skin, and then wipe it gently away.

It's true that beauty comes from within ... but it's nice when it shows up on the outside, too!
