Make Sacred Body Oil to Nourish Skin + Spirit

What makes a "sacred body oil"?

We can start with essential oils traditionally used in rituals and for purification!

One thing I love about essential oils is that they manage to heal us on multiple levels at once.

Let's take frankincense essential oil, for example.

Frankincense is amazing for skin care and respiratory support. It eases inflammation, soothes irritation (like itching or pain), and supports skin to heal itself. It's great for headaches and muscle tension, too.

But frankincense also helps soothe us emotionally and mentally. It's been used throughout history for things like meditation, rituals, contemplation, and sacred body oil and perfume.

Frankincense essential oil supports us, body and mind (and heart!)

In my book, The Heart of Aromatherapy, I wrote . . .

"When the Frankincense tree's trunk or branches are injured, the tree's resin comes out from within the tree to heal the wound. The essential oil is distilled from this resin. You can see this as Frankincense's way of helping you draw on inner strength to stay healthy."

What a beautiful metaphor!

Frankincense isn't the only essential oil that supports us in multiple ways, either. A few other examples are palo santo (it's used for healing and rituals so often that its name means "holy wood", myrrh (which has been popular in incense and skin care blends throughout much of history), and rose (rose essential oil is especially famous for helping us open our hearts and feel comfortable connecting with others.)

This is a "sacred body oil" blend from The Heart of Aromatherapy that combines these essential oils in a daily moisturizing oil.
