Make “Sacred Body Oil” to Nourish Skin + Spirit!

Make Sacred Body Oil to Nourish Skin and Spirit

What makes a “sacred body oil”? We can start with essential oils traditionally used in rituals and for purification!

One thing I love about essential oils is that they manage to heal us on multiple levels at once.

Let’s take Frankincense essential oil, for example.

Frankincense is amazing for skin care and respiratory support. It eases inflammation, soothes irritation (like itching or pain), and supports skin to heal itself. It’s great for headaches and muscle tension, too.

But Frankincense also helps soothe us emotionally and mentally. It’s been used throughout history for things like meditation, rituals, contemplation, and sacred body oil and perfume.

Frankincense essential oil supports us body and mind (and heart!)

In my book, The Heart of Aromatherapy, I wrote . . .

When the Frankincense tree’s trunk or branches are injured, the tree’s resin comes out from within the tree to heal the wound. The essential oil is distilled from this resin. You can see this as Frankincense’s way of helping you draw on inner strength to stay healthy.

What a beautiful metaphor!

Frankincense isn’t the only essential oil that supports us in multiple ways, either. A few other examples are Palo Santo (it’s used for healing and rituals so often that its name means “holy wood”), Myrrh (which has been popular in incense and skin care blends throughout much of history), and Rose (Rose essential oil is especially famous for helping us open our hearts and feel comfortable connecting with others.)

This is a “sacred body oil” blend from The Heart of Aromatherapy that combines these essential oils in a daily moisturizing oil.

Frankincense’s “Nourished from Within” Sacred Body Oil

    • 1 oz (30 ml) vanilla-infused jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis)
    • 6 drops Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)
    • 4 drops Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha)
    • 3 drops Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens)
    • 2 drops Rose (Rosa × damascena)

Make the blend in a 1 oz (30 ml) glass bottle. Pour the jojoba into the bottle, and add the essential oils.

Did you love what you learned about essential oils in this blog post? Would you like to learn more recipes like this “sacred body oil”?

The Heart of Aromatherapy: An Easy-to-Use Guide for Essential Oils is full of them! Publishing this book with Hay House fulfilled a long-time dream of mine. I was able to create over 100 recipes and 40 unique, colorful essential oil profiles that treat the oils as friends. (It’s easier to remember what an oil is good at when it has a “personality” and “job” haha!) You’ll also find warm profiles of small-scale farmers and distillers, who tend the plants and produce the essential oils that make Aromatherapy possible. I would be honored if you’d pick up a copy of my book for your collection!
