Which Essential Oil is Best for Sleep? (try this recipe tonight!)

Frankincense is one of the best essential oils for sleep that I know!

It’s very effective at helping people feel relaxed, and at calming down cycles of “overthinking” that can keep a lot of people lying awake and staring at their ceilings all night. (So frustrating!)

Roman Chamomile blends well with Frankincense and might be one of the best essential oil sleep blends I’ve used!

They are both so calming for the nervous system and ease cycles of stress and circuitous thoughts. They soothe that restless sense of when you’re lying in bed, trying to sleep, but still feel a little too “high strung” to relax.

Here’s one of my favorite ways to use these essential oils for sleep.

Drift To Sleep Bath Salt

  • 1 oz (28 g) Pink Himalayan salt
  • 1 tbsp (15 g) Castile soap
  • 4 drops Frankincense essential oil (Boswellia carterii)
  • 1 drop Roman Chamomile essential oil (Chamaemelum nobile)

Make this blend in a 1 oz (30 ml) glass jar.

Put the pink salt into the jar. (You can actually use any kind of salt you like for this. I just love the pink salt because of all its nutrients)

Then you can put the Castile soap into a small bowl, and stir the essential oils into it. Pour the Castile soap and oil blend into the salt, and use a glass stirring rod to gently mix it all up!



Another way to do this is to just put the Castile soap and essential oil drops directly into the pink salt. In that case, just be sure to stir it up so the oils are blended in with the soap. The Castile soap is what’s going to absorb the essential oils and keep them distributed through the bath. (It also protects our skin!)

You can use the entire jar in one bath.

The warm water itself will help you relax, releasing tension from your muscles. And the essential oils for sleep in this bath salt help ease tension even more.

Not everybody has a bath tub, or likes to take baths.

In that case, you can still use this bath salt! Just pour yourself a warm, comforting foot bath, and add the entire jar of bath salt to that. 

Frankincense is one of the best essential oils for sleep, and I turn to it often.

In fact, it’s one of my favorite essential oils, hands down! Its unique, multi-talented personality has made it a must-have for a lot of people.
