I have a great idea for you to make holiday gifts this year! It's a holiday solid perfume recipe.

These make great gifts for people. They're thoughtful, natural, and unique, and people have fun using them.

You can make them in small 1 oz (30 ml) tins or in 1 oz (30 ml) glass jars.

Orange, Frankincense, and Cardamom Solid Perfume

  • 1 oz (28 gm) Beeswax (Cera flava)

  • 2 oz (60 ml) Vanilla-infused jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis)

This solid perfume is simple to make.

First, melt your beeswax and jojoba using the "double boiler method."Put a Pyrex measuring cup in a soup pot that's ¼ filled with water, letting the handle of the Pyrex hang outside the pot. Bring the water to a gentle boil. Add your ingredients to the Pyrex, and watch them melt! Once they're melted, remove the Pyrex from the heat. The handle should only be warm, not too hot.

Then add essential oil drops to the melted blend:

  • 12 drops Cardamom (Ellettaria cardamomum)

  • 12 drops Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis)

  • 20 drops Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)

Stir gently with a glass stir rod (or the end of a spoon), then pour your blend immediately into your tins or jars. Set the lids on the containers while your perfumes cool and solidify.

This recipe solidifies quickly. If some of it starts to harden in your Pyrex, just put the Pyrex back into the soup pot and remelt it.

Cardamom is a spicier essential oil... so to prevent it from leading to potential skin irritation, we're keeping it at a low dilution in this perfume—less than 1% (4 drops per 1 oz/30 ml). Sweet Orange is at the same dilution.

We're balancing those with skin-nourishing jojoba and Frankincense essential oil. Frankincense is very protective of the skin and is a perfect aroma for the holiday season.

This solid perfume smells so rich and warm—vanilla and Frankincense layered with the aromas of spice and oranges. I hope you enjoy it!
