Conifer Oil Extravaganza & A Black Spruce Recipe!

Their aroma is so comforting and invigorating at the same time. It gives me the sense of being in a cozy cabin—warm and cared for, with an expansive feeling of inspiration. (What better place is there to get creative than in a cabin in a pine forest?)

Conifer essential oils are distilled from evergreen trees—from the needles, and in some cases from the cones, twigs, and wood. They flourish even in very cold weather, and they can help us to do the same.

Conifer essential oils offer such wonderful benefits to the respiratory system, warding off colds and flu. If you do come down with a bug, they can help you recover more quickly, easing congestion and sore muscles. Conifer oils are also amazing cleaning agents. You can diffuse them to reduce airborne microbes (imagine that clean pure mountain air!), or create natural cleaning products that reduce germs on your surfaces (and in the air at the same time).

Here’s a blend that can help you tap into the invigorating, energizing aspects of conifer oils. It includes Black Spruce, which is a great friend if you’re fighting fatigue and wanting to boost immunity.

Black Spruce Boost Body Oil

  • 1 oz (30 ml) vanilla-infused jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis)
  • 10 drops Black Spruce (Picea mariana)
  • 4 drops Balsam Fir (Abies balsamea)
  • 3 drops Laurel Leaf (Laurus nobilis)

Make your blend in a 1 oz (30 ml) glass bottle or, if you are taking it with you to work or out and about, you can use a  PET plastic flip-top bottle (sometimes this is called a “disc-top”).

Take a small palmful of the blend and massage it into your low back, and anywhere your body feels sore or in need of some moisturizing. You can concentrate on your joints if they need some TLC.

This recipe is perfect for raising your energy, promoting circulation and respiratory health, and inviting inspiration and motivation. (The Laurel Leaf lends a lot of support to that effect!)
