Sunburn can turn a day of outdoor fun into an uncomfortable, restless night.

Despite our best efforts to use protective clothing, apply sunscreen, and limit our sun exposure, we sometimes lose track of time and find ourselves dealing with the unpleasant consequences of sunburn. Maybe we've been engrossed in our gardening, taken a long walk, or lost ourselves in the beauty of a tropical vacation. And then, we discover the telltale red skin.

That's when a natural, homemade sunburn relief spray comes to our rescue.

I keep a batch ready in my fridge. It's delightfully cooling when applied! Here's how to prepare it in a 30 ml (1 oz) glass spray bottle:

  • Just under 30 ml (1 oz) Lavender hydrosol (Lavandula angustifolia)

  • 15 drops Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia)

  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Aloe Vera Gel (Aloe barbadensis)

  • 2 gel capsules of vitamin E (simply pierce the capsules with a safety pin and squeeze out the gel)

  • 2.5 ml Solubol dispersant

To ensure the maximum benefits, I recommend preparing this spray afresh every few weeks.

We all know how quickly children can get sunburnt while losing themselves in outdoor fun. This sunburn relief spray is safe for children over five, even those with sensitive skin. Typically, I use less essential oil in blends for kids, but since this recipe only uses Lavender essential oil for short-term use, I've maintained the same proportions.

The therapeutic benefits of Lavender essential oil for burns are noteworthy. Its soothing, anti-inflammatory properties alleviate pain and promote skin cell repair, accelerating the healing process. If I accidentally burn myself while cooking, my first reaction is to reach for the Lavender oil and apply a few drops to the affected area.

In this sunburn relief spray, Lavender essential oil teams up with Lavender hydrosol, aloe vera, and vitamin E. Each of these ingredients contributes its unique healing properties, but together, they create a powerful synergy that boosts the relief process.

Feel free to use the spray as frequently as required. It's also a fantastic sleep aid, so remember to spritz it over your sunburn before bedtime!
