Soothe your feet with this minty-fresh foot scrub!

Feet can get dry and itchy any time of year.

But they sometimes need extra care in the winter, when the air tends to be especially cold and dry.

This natural Peppermint foot scrub recipe helps exfoliate dry, itchy feet to soften calluses, while the avocado oil can deeply moisturize parched skin. The essential oils can help reduce microbes, including fungi!

Why avocado oil for dry, itchy feet?

Avocado oil is one of the most nourishing natural carriers you can give your skin!

It has a thick, luxurious texture. It's rich in essential fatty acids, especially oleic acid, which is an easily absorbed emollient that softens and soothes the skin.

Avocado oil is also rich in vitamins including D, E, and A.

It's often included in joint care salves since studies have shown that extracts of avocado oil may help calm inflammation.

Now let's get to the recipe, then I'll tell you about why these essential oils are good for itchy feet!

Peppermint Foot Scrub for Dry, Itchy Feet

  • 4 oz (112 g) Pink Himalayan salt

  • 4 oz (120 ml) Avocado oil (Persea gratissima)

  • 15 drops Peppermint essential oil (Mentha x piperita)

  • 15 drops Wild Carrot essential oil (Daucus carota)

  • 10 drops Lemongrass ct. rhodinol essential oil (Cymbopogon citratus ct. rhodinol)

Directions

  1. You'll need an 8 oz (240 ml) PET jar. (Or two 4 oz/120 ml jars.)

  2. Put your pink salt into the jar. I use small or fine-grained salt, but you can use any salt you like! A heavier grain (such as medium) can give you a rougher scrub for heels and calluses.

  3. Pour your avocado oil into the jar.

  4. Add essential oils

  5. Mush it all together with a stainless steel spoon. I don't usually use glass stirring rods for making salt scrubs since salt scrubs are thick. I wouldn't want to break a glass rod while I was stirring.

To use your Peppermint Foot Scrub, just scoop some out with your fingertips and massage your dry, itchy feet!

The texture of your scrub will be loose and oily, which is perfect! Once you rinse your feet off, you'll have a moisturizing, itch-calming blend of avocado oil and essential oils lingering on your skin, keeping your feet softened and nourished.

Since the avocado oil and essential oils in this scrub can help calm inflammation, feel free to spend a little time giving yourself a foot massage.

Let's take a closer look at the essential oils in this recipe.

Peppermint essential oil (Mentha x piperita)

Peppermint oil contains menthol—a natural component that activates cold-sensing receptors in your skin and overrides pain-sensing channels.

Menthol also has potent actions against a broad range of microbes, including bacteria and fungi. These powerful effects are one-half of what makes Peppermint oil such a classic choice for foot scrub recipes!

Another reason it's a go-to for foot care is simply because it smells amazing! Not only does Peppermint make your feet smell fresh and sweet, but it also helps reduce bacteria that can cause odors in the first place.

Wild Carrot essential oil (Daucus carota)

Wild Carrot is the ancestor plant of the more commonly known domesticated carrot—that's the delicious veggie that we eat! Wild Carrot isn't edible, but the entire plant is distilled to produce this sweet, woody, earthy oil with a hint of spice!

I chose Wild Carrot oil for my foot scrub recipe because it's rich in geranyl acetate and a-pinene.

In research, both constituents have been shown to reduce the presence of microbes, including bacteria and fungi.

They can both also help calm inflammation—another reason to spend time massaging your feet with this scrub!

Lemongrass ct. rhodinol essential oil (Cymbopogon citratus ct. rhodinol)

Lemongrass oil is an incredible choice any time you're facing itchy skin or a fungal issue in your home.

However, most Lemongrass oil can seriously irritate the skin.

So for this foot scrub recipe, I've chosen to use a special kind of Lemongrass oil: Lemongrass ct. rhodinol.

Instead of the irritating component citral (common in most lemongrass), this oil contains rhodinol. It's gentle on the skin while offering all the potent benefits of lemongrass against microbes and fungi.

Pamper your feet!

If you use this foot scrub in the bathtub, remember to wipe down the sides of your tub. Otherwise, the avocado oil can leave your surfaces a little slippery.

Enjoy your moisturized, healthy feet!
